From 5th – 7th of August 2015, GIZ provided a training for accountants and administrative staff to build capacity in order to further improve their performance at work and also introduce new staff to GIZ administration and finance systems. The training was attended by staff from within and outside the country that is Uganda, Tanzania and Malawi.
As GIZ seeks to provide its staff with opportunities for professional growth and advancement, all staff receive training as needed for the specific (and changing) requirements of their position. Opportunities for these trainings include formal and informal training, attendance at conferences and workshops, project leadership, chairing committees and special assignments to utilize unused talents.
The first day of the training was an engaging presentation on our corporate as GIZ and the important topic of the GIZ ‘Orientation and Rules’ (O+R) was tackled. The O+R is the operational manual of GIZ Internal prescribing administrative processes and relationships within and with contractors and clients.
In this regard topics discussed included:
• Procurement of goods and services and the guiding principles thereof
• Official travel procedure and financial monitoring
• National Personnel Policy
• IT systems in GIZ
• Internal control systems etc.
Participants engaged in group work after every session to enhance understanding of the content. It was a perfect way to help them apply what they had learnt. The training also provided a good platform to share experiences and learn from each other.
According to participants the now deepened knowledge will help improve effectiveness of their work performance in the future.
It is envisaged that the skills gained will enhance the objectives of GIZ in the region, as a trusted partner offering sustainable solutions to complex problems and particularly in this regard in the Health Sector in Kenya to increase access to quality healthcare.2015-10-02
