The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health as a fundamental right of every human being has increasingly become an important obligations of States the world over. The right to health, which was first enshrined in WHO’s Constitution in 1946, has since then been enshrined in numerous international and regional human rights treaties as well as national constitutions all over the world. In Kenya, the right to health is enshrined in the new constitution. The GTZ Health Sector Programme in Kenya is supporting initiatives in Kenya aimed at realising the right to health, including the application of human rights based approach to health programming. This is especially through support of health financing strategies and other social protection measures aimed at attaining universal coverage of health care and having a special focus on vulnerable groups. This Course is therefore highly recommended for all stakeholders in the Kenyan health sector.
