Mrs. Lucy Ijahi Simiyu – Chief Officer of Health – Vihiga County, Kenya
I am in agreement that the challenges brought out are real on the ground especially in Vihiga.
What I really liked was the horizontal exchange amongst counties ; I picked out that one. Kisumu being our nearest neighbour, we can easily bench mark against one another.
Going back to Vihiga, the support of activities has been mainly in the area of maternal and child care, and we must say that it has been great especially the area of stakeholder reporting. We have received a lot of support in that area and the quarterly review meetings have been on and they are going on.
Just as a point of information, we realized that we have a gap in Vihiga and we thought that the best way to deal with this gap is to do a large services care fund or a bill to that effect so that it can give us a regulative framework for managing our hospital boards and our health management committees and that is on course .
We received a lot of support also again from GIZ in the final paper that is in funding it and it has been presented to the assembly for adoption and further approval, so that will help us a lot in financing our healthcare in the sense that 25% (that is the proposal) of the monies received should recirculate.
Moving forward, I also agree that we still need a lot of support especially at a small county like Vihiga and it can be a best practice in the country I believe, and that is what I am pushing for in the long run.2017-02-06
