KeHIA is the association of Health Informatics Professional in Kenya. It was formed to promote informatics in health care, research and bio medicine in Kenya, to stimulate research, development and routine application of Health informatics in Kenya and to further disseminate Health informatics Knowledge and practices in the Kenya.
KeHIA represents Kenya in the Health informatics In Africa (HELINA) forums. HELINA is the regional initiative that promotes research and use of Health Informatics in Africa. Globally, KeHIA is recognized by the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). Additionally, KeHIA is active in the Health Data Collaboratives through its Secretary General who is a permanent member of the Digital Health and Interoperability (DHI) Working Group.
KeHIA has hosted various Inaugural Health Big Data Symposiums in 2016 and 2017 at Strathmore University and has worked with Ministry of Health to develop health informatics curriculums in both private and public universities.
KeHIA provides an opportunity for Informatics researchers and other professional in related domain to share their work with others in the global family through an open access peer reviewed journal, Kenya Health Informatics Journal (KIJ). KIJ publishes original informatics research articles in areas such as clinical care, clinical research, translational science (Bioinformatics), implementation science, imaging, education, consumer health, public health, and policy and governance. The journal also accepts case or short reports, abstracts, editorials, perspectives and reviews.
This year KeHIA is planning to host the HELINA conference 2018. More information about HELINA can be found at http://www.helina-online.org/
